Junior Achievement of the Bluegrass Partners with the Kentucky Bar Foundation to Provide Financial Literacy Education
October 23, 2024 (Lexington, KY) — Junior Achievement (JA) of the Bluegrass has received a $2,500
grant from the Kentucky Bar Foundation to provide students enrolled in the “Pre-Law” track at Fayette
County High Schools with related career academy programs to experience financial literacy lessons
designed to help them understand personal finance. The initial program will begin at the Frederick
Douglass High School (FDHS) Academy of Professional Services.
The students will participate in JA Finance Park®, a program for personal financial planning and career
exploration. This program, comprising a curriculum and a simulation, helps students build a foundation
on which they can make intelligent financial decisions that last a lifetime, including decisions related to
income, expenses, savings, and credit.
This educator-led classroom curriculum culminates with a visit to JA Finance Park® where students
engage with volunteers and put into practice what they've learned by developing a personal budget.
During the simulation, the students will move through two life stages—young adult and adult—to see the
impact of their financial decisions over a period of time. Volunteers from the legal profession will provide
support and guidance during the simulation allowing them to network with individuals who will inspire
them.
JA of the Bluegrass appreciates this financial support from the Kentucky Bar Foundation. This grant will
help further our mission to connect students to role models, resources, and real-world experiences.
Youth are inspired to dream big and reach their full potential through our financial literacy, work
readiness, and entrepreneurship educational programs.
